Well, it’s our final day of the Twific Fandom Celebration. We couldn’t conclude FicStock without mentioning RAoR, the iconic website that brought many of us h00rs together. Lifelong friendships were sparked in the comments section, and many a fic was discussed during the original Sinday posts. Let’s get sucked into the supermassive black hole that takes us back to the days of RAoR where we’ll have one final celebration of those who came before us and we’ll honor those who left the fandom too soon.
*FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY*
Like so many back in 2009, I sort of fell into a Twilight fan fic wormhole, emerging somewhere “on the other side” — forever changed by the incredibly imaginative versions of my beloved characters. Now, though my fanatical urges to stay up reading into the wee hours of the morning have waned, I still have my current favorites — those authors whose stories I wait for with child-like excitement akin to the ice cream truck coming down the street on a hot, summer’s day. But when I think back to the beginning, when I let my mind wander and think about the stories that shaped me as a reader and a writer, there’s one story from the early days that truly has it all: Breaking News by WriteOnTime. *.*
Breaking News was one of the first fics that left me wondering at the end of each chapter why on Earth it wasn’t an original fiction. I mean, seriously. This story (I hate even referring to it as a “fic” because it’s just so. much. more.) has everything: *action, mystery, romance, major UST, and word-p0rn both scientific and banteriffic* (aka terrific sexual banter!). The dialogue is beyond reproach, the setting realistic and chock-full of appropriate lingo with just the right balance of terminologies to ground it, helping us as readers suspend both our disbelief and our, generally speaking, collective lack of knowledge regarding particle physics. (Yes, you read that right.)
But don’t let sciencey-stuff scare you off, gentle readers!! If you’ve read my recs in years past, you know I have a soft spot for *SMARTFIC*: stories that show wit, humor, meaning, and symbolism in ways that engage us and encourage us to be active readers. Yes, I like my PWP just as much as the next gal…but it takes a special talent to build romance and *tell a compelling love story in an entirely unique way*. And this one DOES IT IN SPADES, guys.
So…what’s it about, you ask? Isabella Swan is a second-string *news anchor* until the guy who heads the nightly news unexpectedly passes away — and this is where the story opens, with Bella filling in for the coveted time slot. Also unexpectedly, she’s asked the following day to take the chair permanently, but the “network brass” have a new format for the news and it’s no longer going to be one anchor behind a news desk, oh no…they want interactive media, live colorful commentary, lightning-quick analysis, palpable energy, and undeniable chemistry!
Enter *smoking-hot Edward Cullen* — the highly sought-after, ultra-distinguished world reporter, accustomed to embedded journalism, undercover assignments, and on-site in-depth, life-risking coverage… anything but a news anchor desk. When Edward and Bella meet, *sparks fly* — and not necessarily in a good way. But, as is always the case, there’s a fine line between love and hate, and mutual admiration (though reluctant) leads to a mutual attraction pretty darn quickly. As they navigate their new roles at the network as well as their fledgling romance, they also have to work together to save Bella’s best friend Alice, each other, and maybe even the world.
Told in 26 PERFECT chapters, this is a story you can easily tackle over a weekend, losing yourself in it immediately. If you’ve not read anything by WriteOnTime before, please don’t miss that train! She’s a stellar author, one whom I hope to hear more from in the years to come. Tweet me and let me know what you think after you read it! *@deedreamer16 *
As always, Happy Reading!

Hi, my name is ruinedbyrob and I’m addicted to fanfiction. You could put the blame on a one hundred and seven year old, virgin vampire. But in realty the true blame lies with the wonderful author, Edwardsbloodtype. She wrote the masterpiece, High Anxiety. I say masterpiece because this fic truly is, a work of art. It has everything an angst h00r like myself could ask for. Bella is an intelligent yet funny heroine that can not only hang with the girly-girls, but also meet the cute neighbor boys in the backyard for a quick smoke. The hero is a good looking, athletic, intelligent young man who through a web of lies has thrust upon him by a court of law, a punishment that makes his life difficult at best and sometimes nearly impossible. He’s a charming yet depressed young man with severe OCD qualities and he makes you want to hug him and tell him everything will be alright. Throw in an Esme that always has her boy’s back and never turns down a request for a hug, a Jasper that is a bit of a jerk, but once you understand what he’s lost, is forgiven his transgressions, a goofy Emmett that’s impossible not to love and you have the makings of a well-crafted and perfectly written story that you’ll stay up waaaay past your bedtime to read.
High Anxiety is one of those fics that makes the characters so real you can’t help but think of them as family. You laugh when they do and cry buckets of tears when life kicks them in the knee caps. You’ll root for Edward, you’ll laugh at Emmett and you’ll make it a point to avoid eating anything Esme cooks. But most of all, you’ll understand that having a family who will stand by you, understand you and forgive you will make even the worst parts of your life bearable.
That broody, gorgeous vamp may have turned me onto fanfiction, but High Anxiety made me a junkie!

It was kind of nice think back on what brought me to FanFiction, in the first place. I guess, like some people at time, though I was actually on my own in my Twilight obsession in beginning completely unaware, I didn’t want to walk away from these characters that I fell in love with. I don’t think that had happened to me before Twilight.
I have always been a big fan of AU fan fic, because if it’s done well, then I’m feeling what I felt when reading the original series. I love that feeling. I stumbled upon fan fic through LTT/LTR’s forum, and wondered “What the hell is this? People are actually writing about these characters?!?” The first AU story I read, LauraACullen‘s The List. Yeap. Changed my life and my marriage. Who knew that there were so many different ways to express your love and attraction for someone, besides actual sex?!?
Author’s summary: Four weeks before her wedding to Edward, Bella is frustrated. She knows there’s little-to-no chance of getting him to bend his rules and boundaries now, but there’s no harm in fantasizing about what could happen later. So she begins compiling a list...
Want to know my favorite thing they do on this list?? Role-playing, specifically “vampire”. Man that scene is so f*ing hawt. After that, I was hooked. I wanted to keep reading about what might have happened in the “fade to black” scenes. Frustrating, right?
My “All time favorite AU fan fic” would definitely be Lolashoe’s trilogy, Let Your Light Shine, An Extraordinary Life and This Hungry World. She did an amazing job with our two favorite vampires and took them where I don’t think even Ms. Meyer‘s could have pulled it off.

The very first fanfic that I ever read was minisinoo’s Finding Himself. To this day I still consider it to be one of the best stories I have ever read. And, to clarify, I mean best of all stories, not strictly fanfiction.
The joy of reading the now-retired minisinoo’s Cedric and Hermione-centered Harry Potter story was the primary catalyst into my Robsession, which pretty swiftly became a Twilight one.
Minisinoo wrote Finding Himself prior to Rowling’s completion of the series and this inventive, alternate route is no less magical, and far more romantic and sensual. Make no mistake, Finding Himself is ultimately a love story – a great love story – complete with multidimensional characters, layers of intrigue, creative plot lines, and set in a world where Cedric survives the attack at the end of The Goblet of Fire. I feel the characterizations of Hermione and Cedric are true to the spirit of canon. Their intellectual and moral compatibility make them an ideal pairing. The story makes it clear that Cedric would have been an incredible asset to the forces of good and highlights just how tragic his canon loss is.
Oh, and the Prefect’s Bath love scene remains one of the hottest things I have ever read.
Finding Himself: The-Boy-Who-Almost-Died has to figure out what it means that he didn’t. Harry’s tumultuous 5th year at Hogwarts is Cedric’s 7th and final. Offside isn’t Savage2789’s best fic, but It is, for me, one of her most significant, being the one which prompted me to write my first ever piece of fiction outside of the classroom. Offside is a tale of a lonely, motherless teenager, who longs to be an artist, but bows to his controlling father’s demands to excel at soccer, which, in turn, makes him a bit of a prick. When he falls for feisty, footie-playing Bella, Daddy C gets his knickers in a big ol’ twist, and such was the loathing for Carlisle that Shay devised a contest for readers to write a one-shot describing clever ways to bump him off – which is where I came in. My effort was entitled ‘What Goes Around Cums Around’ and I had such fun writing it that I was inspired to try a multi-chapter story, and thus my fanfiction career was born – so thanks, Shay and Offside.

What a pleasant surprise it was for me when I started reading Pure Revelations by georgialion. Not only was it well-written but it was probably THE most original story idea in fanfic that I’ve ever come across. Filled with equal parts of intrigue, mystery, and adventure, it was predominantly a love story at its core. The characters were full of life and leapt off the page. It was written by two people; one who wrote Edward’s POV and one who wrote Bella’s as they alternated chapters which meshed seamlessly – you couldn’t distinguish between them. Along the way were many jaw-dropping moments and an extremely satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend this story – don’t be afraid of the length, you will soak up every word, and then some.

There’s nothing I enjoy more than a well-written and well-researched historical fic and Lady Gwynedd (or Mrs. Brownloe, as she’s now called) always delivers. Her most famous story is probably The Mail Order Bride, which is lovely, but I want to draw attention to her equally sublime, but less known fic, Nightingale.
The story takes place in 1770, right in the middle of the colonial era when many Europeans sought their fortune in The New World and Isabella Swan, a skilled but poor seamstress from Portsmouth, is one of them. Down on her luck, she makes the fateful decision to sell her service to a lady she has never met and must sail across the Atlantic to her new life as an indentured servant in America. However, when she arrives, smelling rather ripe after her long journey, she finds a house in disarray and a new owner, Mr. Cullen, who has no need for a seamstress and is ready to send her back to where she came from. Isabella must now work hard to convince the young gentleman that she is everything he could ever want from a housekeeper: kind, thoughtful, efficient, resourceful and a great cook. In fact, she does such a good job that Mr. Cullen soon finds himself wanting impossible things. Impossible, because he is from one of the finest families in The New World, and Isabella is an orphaned servant. How can the two of them ever find happiness together when he is expected to marry a lady from the upper class and she is, for all intents and purposes, his slave for the duration of her servitude?
Not to worry, Lady G finds a way. And now I have to go reread the whole story for the fourth time. Or is it the fifth?

When I read Help Wanted by jaxon22, I had no idea how much it would change my view of fanfic. Up until that point I had really only delved as deep as vamps and CEOwards. Help Wanted introduced me to the world of Actorward and let me see there was much more to fanfic than met the eye. The arrogant, but loveable Edward Cullen and the clumsy yet strong Bella were a match made in heaven. And watching the two of them figure that out themselves was utter joy to read. From then on out I was hooked; the writing was more than I expected for “amateurs” and reading about Edward and Bella in a whole new way let me hang on to the characters I couldn’t bear to say goodbye to. I read whatever anyone recced and met some new friends along the way; women who now I couldn’t live without. These women not only support me in my own writing endeavor but have been a wonderful support with real life things and I couldn’t imagine my life without them. Plus, I found my deep love of the Actorward…no matter his flaws! All thanks to jaxon22’s Help Wanted.

Congratulations on your six month birthday! I’m so glad there are new blogs taking the torch and continuing to share the love of fanfic! That’s how I first learned about fic in the first place, of course—lurking at RAoR during the summer of 2009. One of the stories I heard about repeatedly in the threads on RAoR was Wide Awake by AngstGoddess003. (JAG used to call it the gateway fic; she was right. LOL). I devoured it over the span of a few days, and then followed that up with AngstGoddess’s other story called Withering the Ferns.
What struck me right away when I started reading WtF was that it was so different from WA. The Bella and Edward in Wide Awake were nothing like those in Twilight, and then the Bella and Edward in Withering the Ferns were not at all like those in WA—all amazing characters, but nothing alike. That’s when I realized that fanfic isn’t just about taking these canon characters and allowing them to continue on so they don’t come to an end when you close the book. It’s also about taking the characters that the author created and having fun with them. They can be anyone. Do anything…live anywhere. They can be completely different and still be amazing, likeable characters—or vile, hateful ones—and the story can be just as memorable. In addition to being highly entertained, that’s what I took away from reading AngstGoddess’s stories. And the wheels started turning in my brain.
By September of 2009, I was writing and posting The Weight of Words, creating my own version of Meyer’s characters, bringing them north of the border and throwing the Bard into the mix. I’m so grateful to JAG and RAoR and the ladies who cheered me on from the start. I know for a fact that if I hadn’t stumbled upon RAoR and fanfic, and the amazing community of readers and writers in this fandom, I wouldn’t be doing what I am now.

I believe I was one of the early RAoR hoors, having stumbled on the site when I was gobbling up anything Rob related after seeing him in Twilight. There I found a group of the funniest, craziest, most irreverent ladies I’d ever “met”, and I felt like I found home. My inner perv was welcomed, and matched a thousand times over. A day was not complete without visits to RAoR, and my computer screen narrowly missed many sprays of coffee out of my mouth when I read a particularly hilarious comment. Nothing was off limits. Ah, the good old days! LOL!!! I am still cyber-friends with many of the old crew. Add to that my discovery of fan fiction, and the rest is history…
Summer of Salt, by lola-pops is one of my all time favorite stories, even though it is gut wrenching at times. I always love a story with characters I would actually want to hang around with, and lola-pops is a master of writing great characters. You start at the beginning of summer, with Bella and her cousins who are all best friends. They are funny, loving, and deeply committed to each other, having spent every summer together at their family cottages at a lake in Northern California.
Enter the Cullen brothers, Emmett and Edward: players at Texas A&M. Cue the instant attraction between Edward and Bella. The snappy dialogue and wonderful characters make you care so much about them all.
I absolutely love the way lola-pops has written this Bella and Edward. Bella is strong and independent, but not so much so that she cannot be hurt badly. You feel Bella’s hurt and confusion as though you are her best friend; but she is no pushover. Edward is cocky, but funny and smart underneath it all; his journey of self-discovery and growth is pure literary gold.
It’s such a special fic to me, I may or may not have re-read this one so many times I can’t count.
Summer of Salt: The heat wave lingers. Sweet, savory and slick. Jasper, Rose and I wade through the humid days, content in our relative isolation. We spend June through August at our family lake property, and this summer is like any other. Until it’s not. M Romance/Angst Bella/Edward Complete
May 2008: I’d gobbled up the Twi Saga, read the extras on SM’s site, followed by Midnight Sun, and my world was (unconditionally and irrevocably) transformed. But I wanted more. I mean, I liked Twilight, a lot…but I loved Edward. My sister was my early tour guide in all things Twilight and steered me toward the fic that would open the floodgates. Dark Side of the Moon by blondie AKA robin is New Moon told from Edward’s POV and, yeah, it’s pretty much perfect. I was in awe of the quality of the writing, the authenticity of the world, the depth of Edward’s characterization. It was a relief and a rush to know that, even though I’d memorized the Twilight series, the journey was just beginning. DSotM was the first fic I read and to this day is my favourite. Edward’s voice, the race to stop Victoria, his anguish over leaving Bella… *stifles sob* All tortured Edward, all the time. Magnifico.

Our dear friend Smitten OKitten was a guest in our One Fabulous Fan post a few weeks ago. As she was in a reminiscing mood, we thought it fitting to include an excerpt here.
“The beginning for me of everything Twilight, happened back in 2010. By the time I found F@N I was knee deep in writing, myself. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in writing that I forget to read. Which is not acceptable but there it is. Well, 2 great friends of mine, obsmama and crookedsmile, had been badgering me to read this story, and I’d been putting them off because I didn’t want to lose my mojo, but after seeing them crazy flail on FB for a few weeks, I finally couldn’t stand it anymore.
I opened up the story, and couldn’t stop. It was ridic how flawless this story was. IS. And I might have fangirled like an insane person in Troublefollows’s group on Facebook a few times.
Just a few.
And that my friends, was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
I look up to her as a mentor not only within this fandom, but in everyday life. She is – by far – one of the sweetest, most sincere, funny, ridiculously talented people I know and if she ever stops writing I may have to make a trip to Chicago to slap that silly idea right out of her.
If you haven’t read this story yet, I’d get right on it. And then read everything else troublefollows.

Tunes with Tony Masen is in my top 10 fics. I read it as a WIP and Just4ALE and I frequently chatted and reminisced about the songs and trivia that she wove throughout each chapter. The Bay Area, where most of the action takes place, was also a favorite topic of discussion between us. The setting creates a fabulous backdrop to the intrigue surrounding the mysterious DJ.
The prologue begins with a car chase and bullets flying. Izzy is a 26 loner who connects with sexy-voiced, late-night DJ ,Tony Masen, who hosts a 70s rock trivia show.
It is a fic that after you finished reading, you think, “Damn! That was good.” Maybe, it’s because Just4ALE‘s personality came through in the writing, and drew the reader in. Her humor, her love -and extensive knowledge- of music, were obvious; every chapter title a respectful nod to one of her favorite bands or legends.
This is an author whose A/Ns are worth cherishing as you read the story. Even reading them now her infectious enthusiasm engulfs you in a hug, and when she asked for feedback, she returned the favor in spades. Just4ALE was the first fic writer who responded to my reviews and she was a good soul. Her passing was, and still is, greatly felt by all her beloved readers, but she lives on through her beautiful words.<3

Reading the University of Edward Masen as a WiP is such a strong memory for the FicSisters; maybe not our first WiP, but it was definitely one of the most memorable from the early days. It pinned us to the rack, and made us run the gamut of emotions – anger, hope, joy, utter despair; like Twilight itself, only the beauty of the writing drew out an even stronger reaction. We’re not ashamed to admit, we felt so attached to this Bella and Edward, there were several places in the story where actual tears were shed. Thankfully, we were with kindred spirits on RAoR where we ranted and raved through the highs and lows of this sensual, passionate, and intoxicating tale.
As Peter quite rightly points out in the first chapter, “Masen is an ass” – we all agree there has never been a better ass *wink*. We cringed along with Bella for a while, but as she – and we – learned more about this enigmatic man, the harder we fell in love with Edward…as fast and irrevocably as with our dear Originalward. First, he intrigued us, then utter fascination set in, and despite his flaws, all of a sudden, our hearts were his.
None of us were Dante specialists when UoEM hit our radar, but we did develop an appreciation by the time we finished. Some of us…*side-eyes AusFicSister* delved even deeper into Edward and Bella’s shared passion for the poet. SR had a magical way of bringing that passion to life. True Romance at it’s best…
In our mind’s eye we will always view Professor Edward Masen this way…
Thanks to all the readers, authors, artists, and betas, for making this weekend so special. Many thanks and warm hugs to our friends at Bookish Temptations, and The Lemonade Stand for making the festival truly an inclusive fandom celebration.
We cannot adequately express how moved we were by the enthusiastic and generous response of those who joined us to share their love for our fandom over this weekend.
We hope our fandom and friendships will last a thousand years…
