Well hello there one and all! We do so love having guests join us each week, once again we’re thrilled that our invitations to share some love were accepted by three lovely ladies, PlanetBlue, kyla713 and beegurl13 – thank you all!
Settle in for a comfy read, first up is our good pal, PlanetBlue with the latest delicious tale from JiffyKate…
I opened up the first chapter of JiffyKate’s new story, No Strings Attached, and read with wide eyes until I reached the very end of chapter two. Sorry phone, I can’t answer you. Sorry dog, I’ll pet you in a minute.
This newest collaboration between the seamless writing team feels like they’re stepping on the gas without letting up. The story begins with us getting to the action (and questions) right away – we’re intrigued as to what our beloved Edward has gotten himself into, what kind of sex club he’s spending his time in, and why? Automatically, my mind went to the typical scenario, that he’d see Bella dancing and Cupid’s bow would shoot him squarely in the ass.
But uh-uh. How refreshing to have Edward as the object in the room, glorified only for what his body offers. He’s blindfolded on a stage, bid on by multiple females, and won by a woman he has never laid eyes on.
What follows is a sexual experience that leaves our boy wanting more as the aloof woman who paid for his time seems to be perfectly happy to stick to the arrangement of ‘no strings attached’.
But what’s really happened here is the unfurling of the evil plan these two authors have concocted: leaving the reader wanting more along with him.
It’s a very good thing Jiff and Jenny Kate are consistent with their posting schedule of Tuesdays and Fridays. In fact, there will probably be another waiting for you by the time you’ve finished reading this little review. Enjoy!
Summary: I got the rundown before I ever stepped through the doors: everyone is anonymous, no strings attached, no questions asked, and what happens in the club stays in the club. I got it. I thought it wasn’t going to be a problem, but then I saw her. AH, ExB, M for lemons and language ~ Rated: M ~ Romance/Drama ~ Bella, Edward ~ Work in Progress
It is no secret that, aside from being my bestie and one of the most amazing people I know, ericastwilight is also one of my all-time favorite twific authors. One of the best things about her stories is that you never truly know what to expect when a new one of hers pops up in your inbox. No matter what it is, there is always something about her stories that will appeal to most, if not everyone; be it romance, humor, or angst, human, vampire, or some other kind of paranormal, she has pretty much covered the entire spectrum. I hadn’t even known that she had started something new until I got the New Story notification in my email. As usual, I wasn’t exactly sure what had cropped up in that mind of hers, but I was actually thrilled to see that she was doing another paranormal type story, as she had been talking about for ages.
The Haunting of Bella Swan starts off with a ghost whisperer type of character, but unlike another story of hers that I absolutely love, She Speaks Fear and Truth, and its sequel Denver Paranormal Society, it is Edward we meet first as the paranormal investigator, and his quirky crew, who just happen to be entirely consisting of spirits. It’s amazing how much life and personality she has kept in the spirits of the deceased, again giving a unique kind of feel to the story. And in true Erica style, it’s another fic that keeps you guessing on certain aspects with every chapter, keeping you on the edge of your seat and anxious for more—and of course, her ever famous cliffhangers. Also, as to be expected, an Edward and Bella that immediately pull you in and pique your curiosity, while never entirely being able to predict what they are going to do next.
I know I am not the only who is really excited about this story’s progression and seeing where these set of characters are heading, and I know she will not disappoint in giving us something amazing and fresh. I highly recommend this to anyone, especially if you want to get into the mood for Halloween.
There are some stories that just stay with you. For whatever reason, they never leave your mind. Other stories come and go, but there are a select few that are always there, reminding you of what good writing, characters, and craftsmanship truly are. All the Wild Horses is one of those stories. Written by elusivetwilight, this realistic tale of heartbreak and hope is beautifully set in a small town, where rumors fly and reputations aren’t earned by your actions, but more by what other people think of you.
Bella Swan, daughter of the local sheriff, grew up thinking her future was set. She’d marry her long-time boyfriend Jacob, they’d have babies, and grow old together. Finding out he’d fallen in love with someone else certainly wasn’t something she’d planned on. Having to return to her small-town home after losing her big-city job certainly doesn’t help her self-esteem or pride, either. Nothing could have prepared her for the harsh and painful future that was actually in store for her.
I plastered a fake smile on my face while he came forward. I wasn’t sure if he felt obligated to say hi to me or what, but there he was, standing there in front of me.
“Hi Jake,” I said, probably too brightly.
A funny look crossed his face as he answered, “Hey Bells.”
Then my favorite part of the conversation started; we always had the same one whenever we met.
There was the long pause of awkward silence where neither of us really had much to say. We verbally danced around the fact that he knows how my boob feels in his large palm, and I try not to remember exactly what he tastes like.
He cleared his throat, “How you doin?”
I shrug my shoulders, “Same old. How’s your wife?”
I should probably ask how he is, but I’m trying not to care about him.
He shuffled uncomfortably on his feet, “Still really pregnant.”
Stab me in the gut, why don’t you?
As she tries to make some kind of life for herself, she finds herself at the mercy of local horse-ranch owner Edward Cullen. He’s a few years older than her, so she doesn’t really know him, but he’s quiet and rather private, especially since the horrific accident four years earlier that killed his wife and young son. Of course, the town biddies have lots to say about him, but none of it seems to describe the sweet, serious, caring man always coming to her rescue.
“How do you know all this?”
She gave me a look, “How does anyone know anything in a small town, sugar?”
I huffed, “Point taken. He won’t let me make any of the first moves, but I’m afraid he’s gonna scurry back up his tree like a frightened squirrel.”
“You just gotta tread carefully, Baby. He’s been hurtin’ a long time over Maria. They were high school sweethearts.”
“What happened to Maria. I mean, I know it was some sort of accident, but what actually happened?” I dried the cutlery she handed me, and put it in the drawer.
“It was a real shame. Dark winter night, right before Christmas. You know how those roads can get out there. She was hit by a drunk driver going way too fast. Her and her son.”
I looked up sharply, “They had a son?”
Momma nodded, “Sad day. He was just a little boy, very young. Handsome like his daddy but had those pretty eyes like his mother.”
That gave me a lot more to consider. I hadn’t known he’d had a son, I only knew his wife had passed away.
How awful for him. It was cliché, and I didn’t believe it actually happened in real life, but my heart really did swell for him. I knew his mother and father had passed away years ago. But to not have the support of your family after losing your own family…
No wonder he acted the way he did. I understood him more now, but the one thing I reminded myself was, that I can’t pity him. I just couldn’t do that to him, the way folk did it to me.
Maybe that was why he was the way he was. People in this town, they seem to follow the pack and assume one person’s behaviors and actions are correct, rather than make up their own minds.
It’s what drives me absolutely out of my mind sometimes. I inhaled deeply, and exhaled, feeling my resolve to be…something to Edward Cullen.
As Bella and Edward get to know each other, things move slowly between them. Both of them are suffering from broken hearts and destroyed lives. Both of them are a little gun-shy and leery. Both of them are hesitant and lost in their own thoughts and fears. But both of them want something, need something, and seem to realize that what they want and need will only be found in each other.
“Edward? What are you-”
I sat her on the edge of the fence and tilted my hat so I could look up at her.
“Look. I told you before, I don’t do things halfway. Maybe you don’t realize it, but you…” I took a deep breath. “I’m starting to live my life again. I look forward to getting up in the morning, to seeing you.” I looked into those brown eyes of hers, and my thumb went for her cheek, smoothing over the delicate bone. She was silent, her eyes wide.
“You do that to me, for me. I don’t care who the son of a bitch was that broke you, but I gotta thank him.” Her eyes nearly popped out of her head at that one. I smiled at her. “Thank him for letting pure gold slip out of his hands and into mine. I want you Bella, and not just for your body, or for making sure my finances are in order. You. The woman who makes me laugh, who blushes at my compliments, who leaves her lipstick stains on my coffee mugs.”
She shook her head and bit her lip, and I nodded at her. How could I make her see she was so much more than worthwhile? I thought for a moment, and then dug my hand into my pocket. Pulling out the small stretchy black band, I held it up for her to see.
“A few months back, I helped a girl and her apples up off the ground in a grocery parking lot. There was something about her I just couldn’t leave alone. A month later, that same girl blew a tire near my ranch and frightened my horse half to death. I rode up to see what the commotion was, and there she stood, in the rain, as sad as I’ve ever seen, but prettier than a clear summer night. You left this on my counter that day, and I’ve been carrying it around with me since.”
I paused, and she blinked at me. “Why do you…”
“Carry it around with me?” I finished for her, and she nodded.
“Because it’s a little part of you.”
I think the thing I love most about this story is how realistic it is. While Edward is swoony and a gentleman, he’s not perfect. He has flaws and issues. He makes mistakes. The beauty of it is that Bella’s the same way. She’s not the most gorgeous woman. She’s clumsy and night blind, and she has issues, too. What makes this story so wonderful is that these two very real, honest people find a way to work through their issues and find the happiness they both thought they’d lost forever. While it might not be the future either of them had dreamed of, it’s the future they both want and need; they realize that everything and everyone in their pasts has led them to each other, and having each other is the most amazing gift of all.
Summary: In her suffocating small hometown, Bella Swan meets widowed Edward Cullen. Can she pull him from the depths of his grief? Is there enough of him left to soothe her clawing loneliness? AUAH E&B. Rated: M ~ Romance/Angst ~ Bella/Edward ~ Complete
Sometimes a sweet fic comes along to warm the heart and make readers smile, just from the absolute relateableness (betas look away, it’s not a word, but you so know what we mean!) of the story and characters.
In Auntie Bella and His Brother’s Keeper, Bella is patiently juggling life raising two young nephews since their parents passed away. She’s gloriously ordinary. Not skinny, not trendy, just perfectly lovely. She’s also given up correcting the assumption that she’s a young single mother…and as such, she’s used to being overlooked.
But Edward notices her. She spends time waiting on her car to be fixed in his auto shop. He sees her kindness, her smile and her sexy curves… all while his brother, Jasper makes the car repairs. You should discover Edward’s story yourself, but the clue’s in the title!
This is a lovely tale of two selfless, caring people who deserve every good thing, especially love…hopefully talented author Jdifrans1 will help them out!
Summary: A short fic about Bella raising her nephews as her own and a sweet mechanic named Edward. Written for notthatamandas birthday. Rated: T ~ Romance ~ Edward/Bella ~ Work in Progress
Fans of the amazing CaraNo will remember waiting patiently, or maybe impatiently, for This Life to post while it was a WiP…the discussions, debates…the cliffies O.o
What started off as a story of a modern day arranged marriage, quickly turned into a love story. Charm, wit, and adventure all mixed in to give us a fic worth revisiting time and again!
Okay, step back. Arranged marriages? Crime? Well, all is not as it seems. Edward chose Bella from a small podunk town, but he wooed her, genuinely won her over with his charm. Despite his illegal activities (grand theft auto) she found herself falling for her “Whistler”, a nickname that he earned with his special skills 😉 -whatever you’re thinking, it’s not that!
What follows is a life of adventure, easy humor and good loving! There are some great “oh heck” moments that will have you on the edge of your seat, but there’s also some delicious lemons.
It’s a fabulous romp -ask any Cara regular about Whistler and they’ll smile wistfully and lose themselves in the memories.
This Life is already in PDF format and can be downloaded from CaraNo‘s WordPress blog. So, get to reading!

Not everyone re-reads stories, but we love to re-visit our favourites from time to time here at the International House of FanFic. Here are a couple of stories we have re-read recently that we loved as much as the first time we read them!!
Love a bit of mystery mixed with everlasting love…topped with a dash of action? Well, look no further, dear readers! The Foreign Papers by the wonderful javamomma0921 is all these and more. We were hankering for a bit of Vampward this last week and we were drawn back into this wonderful tale of Dr Isabella Swan, an expert in the field of Antique Documents who is summoned by the mysterious Mr Masen to work on some letters surrounding the Cullen Family.
The story that unfolds is rich and captivating, and we love every word!
Summary: Isabella Swan is an antique document specialist. When the papers she is working on lead her overseas, she finds herself immersed in the mystery of the enigmatic Edward Masen. What secrets will she find as she explores the documents and letters of the elusive Cullen clan and what does Edward want her to find out about him? Rated M ~ Mystery/Romance ~ Edward/Bella – Complete
It was actually cosmogirl7481‘s fault I recently re-read Love in My Box. I had just finished her wonderful Footprints in the Snow (which I confess to have read many times – don’t judge me…) and after having a little sob, I needed cheering up, and who better than the woman who made you cry in the first place?
Cosmo and the wonderful Marvar29 truly are a dynamic duo – Love in My Box is full of soul – so many fabulous characters and a heart-warming plot. Not to mention possibly the funniest Esme ever – I think I nearly split a side when she decides to share about Carlisle and his love of “ass-play” *chokes on laughter*
So if you are in need of some cheering up – have a visit with Forthwithward and his Bella – I guarantee you will leave with a smile on your face!
Summary: Bella’s an intellectual free spirit and Edward is a reserved, slightly geeky med student. They have a brief, but intense encounter on Sp Brk in Miami. Can they find true love through emails? There will be lemons and laughs. Look who’s writing this! Rated M ~ Romance/Humor ~ Edward/Bella ~ Complete
