We can never forget how blessed we are and we’re happy to share our joy with you…sharing is caring, right?
So, first up this week, our lovely Carrie Elks tells us all about SparrowNotes24 newest story...
From the very start of “A Case of You” we’re aware that there’s something truly wrong in Edward’s life. He’s dark, mysterious, and from his words you can tell he’s already been beaten down by the experiences he’s had.
I have a brilliant memory.
At least until I switch off. Then information bounces off me and disappears into thin air. That’s happening a lot more to me these days. I tell myself it’s a choice, but I’m starting to realize it’s a mechanism I have less and less control over.
In my defense, people talk a lot of shit.”
As the first chapter unfolds, we learn that Edward is late for an AA meeting, but instead of rushing across town, he heads into a takeaway joint and orders some food, becoming intrigued by the brunette with curves poured into a red silk dress. Of course this is Bella, and from the off the chemistry between the two is sizzling.
Bella has her own problems. In many ways she’s as troubled as Edward. Living with a man (Sam) who seems to beat her up for fun, eking out a living serving wontons and noodles to strangers, she ends up trying to throw herself off the side of the bridge. Edward, already fascinated by her, follows her through the clear night and when he sees what she’s trying to do, he tries to talk her down. In the end, though, it’s actions rather than words that save her.
“Adrenaline surges through my body, knocking me to the floor. We’re a tangled heap until I roll her off me. I don’t let her go as she sobs, as she wildly lashes out at me. “Get off me! I don’t want to do this!”
I can’t help but wonder what it is she doesn’t want to do. I hope the answer is die. Slowly, she begins to calm down. I hold her tighter, her muscles relaxing as she sucks in breath after breath. Then she shudders, grabbing on to my jacket, her whole body vibrating with emotion as she buries her face in my neck. Relief or regret, it could be either.
It’s only when I can catch my breath that I realize what I’ve done. Where I am with this girl in my arms. I should let go, walk away, but I don’t.“
There are so many things I love about Sparrownotes24’s writing. Each word is carefully thought out, each sentence a piece of poetry. Reading her stories is like listening to a song; it hits you right in the stomach. A Case of You is no exception. It’s dark but lyrical, with the faintest ribbon of hope woven in. And it’s that hope you cling to as you read the story, knowing that if they just believed in each other, Edward and Bella could come to thrive.
Each character is nuanced and defined. Even the part-players such as Alice and Jasper come with their own back history, one that makes you want to know more. That’s how clever Sparrownotes24 is; she keeps us guessing, keeps us wanting, until we’re staring at our emails desperately hoping for an update.
Lucky for me I’m a pre-reader, so I can tell you that the best is yet to come. “A Case of You” is a wild ride through a dark city, so hop aboard and join us!
Summary: He’s her warning. She’s his sweet temptation. An addict always wants what he can’t have, even if it will ruin him. “Speak of the devil and she shall appear. Who am I kidding? I’m Beelzebub.” Rated: M – Angst/Romance – Bella, Edward – WiP
Anyone else prepared to admit they were a bit scared to read all the entries for the MaybeHEAContest? Did anyone else adopt a wait-and-see policy? Yeah…Wusses Unite! But you gotta know, you missed some amazing fics!
Now is your chance to immerse yourself in gems that you could have missed. Luckily our friend Seagull83 told us we had to read Unsung & Epic, even without knowing it was written by the stunning jandco, we were on it. Because Seagull said. We puffy-heart Seagull.
Yes, it’s a one-shot, but before any of you groan that you always want more; this is so worth it, so satisfying, so much fun, with so many rippy-heart-out-moments, and so darn good. Just for the record, it won first place in both the judge’s vote and the public vote.
If you were the quiet girl who watched and admired the cool gang at school from afar, then one day had a chance, not only to listen to the heartbreak between the star couple, but also try to fix them…would you? Yeah…Bree is one of us. She took up the challenge and delivered with aplomb. Go. Go now. Shoo. Go read. Then say thanks to Seagull. 😉
Summary: Edward and Bella’s romance was of the epic, high school variety and it was up to Bree Tanner to save it. Possibly. Rated: M – English – Angst/Humor – Bella/Edward – Complete
It seems like everyone started reading A Matter of Trust as soon as they could get their grabby hands on it-with good reason!
When career focused teacher, Claire meets hottie actor Daniel-call-me-Dan you’d imagine she’d swoon or flutter her eye-lashes, but she’s too busy demanding he talk to her; they’re stuck in an elevator – and she’s hyperventilating. Distraction is key and looking at him doesn’t help with the panting-for-air thing…and so begins something beautiful. And real. He brings out her funny and she has him flying across the country for a date.
Ahhhh perfect, ‘what could go wrong?’ you ask… Well, here’s the thing. Claire is insecure, having been …wait, that’s her story to tell, 😉 but let’s just say she’s sworn off dating for a while. Her feelings of inadequacy are reinforced by her perpetually disappointed mother, however she does have her BFFs – aka the Fairy Slutmothers, on her side! You’d want them in your life, too.
So, we have a young, handsome Hollywood star, who’s very grounded, very loveable and totes cheeky…and I haven’t even mentioned his English accent yet…and a slightly older, insecure teacher. Now do you see?
It’s a fabulous read, whether you’re on the beach in the US, or snuggled in front of the fire in Oz, this book will make you feel warm and delicious. It’s so well written, with a great humor that doesn’t try too hard – Q.T Ruby does this so well.
You’ll fall in love with Dan and empathise with Claire, and before you know it, you’ll be cheering for them. They’re both flawed, they both make mistakes, but, believe me, they’re so engaging, you’ll care about them.
Days after you’ve finished the book, you’ll find yourself doing a mundane task and smiling because…well, just because. You’ll see.
Summary: She’s stuck in a rut, stuck in life and stuck in an elevator with Hollywood’s hottest actor. And of course she’s just come from the gym.
Claire Parelli just can’t seem to catch a break, well, except for heartbreak, that is. After a lifetime of following the rules, she winds up heartbroken, unfulfilled, and hiding from life. But she can’t hide for long.
After getting stuck aboard a broken elevator with Hollywood It-Boy, Daniel Chase, they begin a secret romance that pries Claire out of her element, out of her shell, and out of her sweatpants. But when their romance accidentally goes public, Claire’s life implodes, leaving her to choose to hunker down in the safety of her sweatpants, or risk her fragile heart on a chance at life, love, and the pursuit of better clothing.
When the amazing ericastwilight offered to write me something for my birthday this past year, I was absolutely tickled pink. Aside from being a close personal friend of mine, she also happens to be one of my favorite authors as well. And because it was for my birthday, she asked me for a general idea of what I wanted to see, and let me tell you, it was quite general. I wanted something light and fun; a young, summertime romance, without an overabundance of angst or smut. And has she ever delivered, making this story everything I wanted and more.
The story starts off with Bella heading off to Cayucos with her friend, Angela, for a trip to her aunt’s beach house for a vacation before the first semester of college started up. Once they arrive and start to get settled, they notice a group of boys on the beach, who of course, are Edward and his friends, also on a vacation before college as well. They are staying in another one of the beach houses there.
Edward is quite suave, but has his own set of troubles you learn very early on. Along with sensing something about Bella’s past, though she won’t talk much about it, it makes him a bit hesitant and questioning whether he should even try to pursue her. Especially coming from different places, and having no idea how far college would take them apart, they keep their exchanges to pretty innocent flirting and kisses.
I love how age appropriate these characters are, especially in their approach to the issues concerning each other. They are very live in the moment and don’t think like adults yet. They don’t go into deep discussions about the future, just enjoy what they have while they have it, while still trying to guard themselves again having to deal with something that could hurt them. I loved how realistically teenager they were; with that wonderful balance of being mature enough to not jump right into bed together, especially given their pasts, and not being able to completely resist their raging hormones, either. Everything was handled delicately and with tact, and Erica really delivered on this fic.
Even if this hadn’t been written for me by my friend and favorite author, I would still be reccing this story. It’s a very light, yet still poignant story.
Ficsister’s Note: sending gentle hugs for a speedy recovery, thanks for joining us even with your med-haze!
Summary: It’s the summer before college, and what better way to spend it than with friends on the beach. Love, sand, and the ocean is what awaits them. Can two people with difficult pasts move on? A birthday fic for Kyla713 Rated: M – Romance/Angst – Bella/Edward – WiP
BellaSunshine’s A Thousand Leaves is one of those stories that no matter how long ago you read the last word, you will recall with clarity everything about this fascinating story. The plot line alone is enough to make you sit up and take notice – it’s not a spoiler to reveal that Edward is accused of murdering Bella’s mother, Renee. And is found guilty. But there is a whole lot more story going on here than a ‘whodunit’ (even though the mystery of it all is just SO good!). Edward and Bella have a complicated past, and our first look at Edward doesn’t really show him in the best of lights…
Hey, Smelly Belly! You soap up today?” he called as he walked past her in the living room.
“Edward! You’re so mean,” Alice said, throwing a protective arm around Bella as they sat on the couch.
“Shut up, Alice. Why are you friends with her anyway? She’s so …” Edward waved his fifteen-year-old hand around and then grinned. “Unnecessary.” His grin widened as he thought about his clever assessment of the petite wallflower now cowering on the sofa.”
Stories of redemption always capture me, and A Thousand Leaves is all about redemption – you see, prior to the tragedy of Renee’s murder, Bella is beloved by all the Cullens, save one. But when Edward is convicted of Renee’s murder and Bella is the witness that puts him away, she ostensibly loses the whole Cullen Clan.
Not is all as it seems, though, and Bella will yet again hold Edward’s fate in her hands. What will she do?
Summary: Isabella Swan grew up as the best friend of Alice Cullen, younger sister of Edward Cullen, who was never nice to Bella despite her being an “honorary Cullen.” Everything changes when Edward is sent to prison for the murder of Bella’s mother. Rated M – Drama/Suspense – Bella/Edward – Complete.

Is anyone of the opinion a textbook containing algorithms could be life-changing? It’s doubtful…even for a math nerd. Yet, in this engaging story from miss.eli, The Infinity Axiom, that theory may yet be proved wrong. Read our full review here.

Edward and Bella were best friends until a perfect storm of circumstances, insecurities, and misunderstandings separated them. But some things are just meant to be, even if they take a slight detour. Rated: M – Romance/Friendship – Bella/Edward – Complete
