Hello and welcome to our home! We can’t wait to introduce you to the lovely ladies who’ve kindly joined us today. First up, the delightful Sparrownotes24…
I love the ocean. Everything about it. If I could, I’d be a mermaid. Unfortunately, I live inland, in the rainiest part of the UK, so I go to the coast as often as I can and daydream about it for the rest of the time.
The idea for this story popped into my head after spending a sunny week beside the sea, watching the beach fill up with tourists during the day, until sunset, when the locals would arrive, taking back their paradise. My mind went into overdrive, thinking about summer romances. I jotted down my rambling thoughts, hoping they’d lure back my mojo which had gone into hiding while I was pregnant with my little boy. After long chats with my girls, and with their constant cheerleading, Sea Salt began to take shape. I’ve asked one of my pre-readers and closest friends, Chocaholic123, to tell you a little more …
When Sparrownotes24 asked me to take a look at a story she’d been working on, I jumped at the chance. As well as being one of my very best fanfic friends, she’s also a writer I truly admire. A poet at heart, she has a way with words that makes my heart clench and my soul yearn. And I truly think this is her best work yet.
There’s something special about a story set on the coast. Maybe it’s that vacation feeling, or the childhood memories it conjures up. The shock of the spray as waves crash along the shore, hair tangled with salt, lips sticky from ice cream. Add to that a teenage Bella and Edward—one just visiting, the other from the wrong side of the tracks—and you have a set up that can lead you to places. Sweet places. Dark places. The ones where trouble lurks.
In Sparrownotes24’s Sea Salt, the setting is beautiful, but lurking beneath it are absentee fathers, stepmoms who can’t cope, and a group of rich kids who love to party. And though Bella’s only visiting for the summer, she finds herself tangled up in their webs of lies and deceit. That’s when she meets a mysterious boy who warns her away. Edward Cullen has demons of his own, ones he tries to ignore as he tries to keep his friends safe. But when he meets a pretty girl with chocolate brown eyes, suddenly, things aren’t so black and white.
Sea Salt tells the story of a small town where affluent kids take what they can, not caring about the fallout for everyone else. It’s the tale of a girl finding out who she is and what she believes in. But first and foremost it’s a love story. One I’m already completely besotted with.
Here’s a sneak peek of chapter 2.
I adjust my sunglasses, choosing to use them to take stock of my fellow travellers without the risk of having to make conversation.
Small talk is not my forte. Awkward silences and eye contact have turned into a phobia. Earphones, books, crosswords. I’m always prepared to fend off strangers.
My tactics usually work, but not today. A tall boy hovers in the corner of my eye, remaining there despite my sudden fascination with the bus timetables posted outside the window. He clears his throat to get my attention.
“Excuse me. Is anyone sitting here?” He gestures to the seat occupied by my battered leather holdall. Another tactic.
I take stock of the numerous bodies still stood up in the aisle as the bus rumbles back to life and shake my head. “No. Sorry, I’ll move my bag.”
“Here. Let me.” He deftly stows the bag overhead and takes his place beside me, awkwardly folding his long legs into the cramped seat.
He busies himself, folding and refolding a newspaper covered in figures and stats that would give me a headache. I try to relax back into the seat, but there’s a palpable shift in his demeanor, and I know he’s going to speak to me. I have no escape, so I plaster on what I hope looks like a pleasant smile.
He offers me one in return. The white teeth and dimpled kind that lowers your defenses. “Where are you headed to?”
I hope you’ll enjoy the story as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.
Summary: Describe yourself in three words. That’s how I found myself beside the ocean, with sea salt tangled hair, sun kissed by a boy who showed me the answers. The boy in the shadows. The boy in the shade. Drama/Romance Rated M Edward/Bella WIP
The idea for She came to me as I listened to ‘Fall for Anything’ by The Script. The lyrics are directed at a girl who always lets guys talk her into bed, then they leave her.
I wondered about the guy who would feel this way; his role in her life, who he was, and whether maybe he was standing back watching her making these mistakes, knowing he could offer her more.
I called him Edward, picked him up and dropped him a few months into the future with a story to tell.
I decided I wanted a messed-up bitch of an Izzy Swan, and an Edward that’s getting over an infatuation that saw him so badly burned he swears he’s having nothing to do with her ever again. Little does he know there’s one more heart-breaking secret he has to learn before she leaves his life once more.
Four years down the line and circumstances have forced them both to change. The second part of the story finds them trying to work out if people really can change and if they’re willing to risk their hearts to find out. Both of their lives have altered beyond recognition, responsibilities weighing heavily on each of them, but both see something in the other that they once fell for long ago. Another obstacle for them is that they’re still surrounded by the people who picked up the pieces last time around; people who haven’t forgotten that fact and insist on reminding them.
I love angst, so the road was always going to be rocky, and there are twists and turns almost all the way through, which I hope keep things interesting and readers guessing.
I tried to show natural growth and development in Edward and Izzy, as a result of the things life has put them through during their time apart. Neither of them has had it easy, but I think it helped them both mature and see what’s important.
Their indecision and deep-seated fears threaten to stand in their way though. In Edward’s own words, “We’re two steps forward and three back. A fairy-tale ending or a disaster waiting to happen. Take your pick, because I have no idea.”
Support’s really valuable as a fic author, especially if you’ve committed to daily updates before you’ve got the whole thing written! I owe a huge amount of thanks to Chocaholic123 and SparrowNotes24. As well as both being talented writers, they’re great sounding boards, advisors and cheerleaders. ‘She’ could have been quite a different story without them!
Summary: She comes, she goes. She takes, she drains. Stealing a piece of me every time she leaves. Isabella Swan: beautiful, mysterious, intelligent. Total emotional car crash. And she just walked back into my life. Hurt/Comfort Rated M Edward/Bella Complete
Here at the International House of FanFic, we love to celebrate people who are wonderful ambassadors for our Fandom. Today we are celebrating Alice’s White Rabbit or if you are on FaceBook you will know her as Sally Hopkinson. She is one of those people who makes our little universe just that much better (and she gives the best fic recommendations ever!). Today she shares how she came to discover this wonderful world of ours…
You are obviously a great fan of the Twilight Saga – did you read the books first or watch the movies?
I got really curious about the time “New Moon” movie was coming out and wondered what all the hubbub was about these vampire books and movies because of a teenage neighbor and my youngest niece. So, I found a cheap DVD of “Twilight”, watched it, and took myself to the movies to see “New Moon.” With the last line of that movie, I decided I HAD to read the books. I borrowed them from my neighbor and read all four in four days during Christmas week.
Which is your favorite book of the Twilight Saga?
As much as I do love the first book, I have to admit I love “Breaking Dawn” the most. (Though, I do tend to skip the “Jacob” book in the middle when I reread it.) I think the reason I like it best is because it has so much action and tugged at my heartstrings the most. I happen to really like the character Alice, and when she left, I cried. Then, I cried again when she came back.
When did you discover fan fiction and how did you discover it?
I found fan fiction in early 2010. Like many other readers, I was looking for more after reading “Midnight Sun” on Stephenie Meyer’s website. I was only on the Twifans website at the time. (I had no idea what Facebook was back then.) Several friends were talking about fan fiction, so Google became my best friend. I went searching for any continuation of “Midnight Sun” and found fanfiction.net. My life has not been the same ever since!
When picking what to read next, is there a particular genre or ‘Ward you go for?
I have very eclectic tastes in fics. Though, I do love a Daddyward story. I tend to pick the stories I read based on the summary. If the summary grabs my attention, I will give the story a try. (A word to the wise from a grammar Nazi, if there are too many errors in the summary, that’s a complete turn-off for me.) I do gravitate to angst stories—the more it breaks my heart, the better. I adore period pieces—Lissa Bryan, LadyGwynedd (aka Mrs.Brownloe), and counselor can do no wrong in my book. Then, I have my tried-and-true authors (Edward’s Eternal, LyricalKris, counselor, CaraNo, to name a few) who never disappoint with the variety and magic they weave in their stories. I also have several friends on Facebook who are great resources for fic recs—they rarely steer me wrong.
Do you have an all-time favorite Fan Fic Edward? If so, we wanna know why he’s made it all the way to the top of the list 😉
This type of question is so difficult to answer. I have read so many amazing stories with incredible Edwards. If I had to narrow it down, I might say Edward from “This Is Not My Life” by IsaKassees or CaraNo’s “Our Yellow House”. They were both such endearing, heartbroken characters.
We better not leave Bella out. Is there a Fan Fic Bella that you admire the most?
I love a strong, funny Bella. I simply adore Staceleo’s snarky Bellas—she always make me laugh. I also loved drotuno’s “Gravity” series Bella—she was so kickass.
If you were stranded on Isle Esme (and Edward wasn’t there to entertain you) which five fics would you take to keep you entertained?
Again, so difficult to narrow this down to just five fics. Maybe: drotuno’s “Gravity” series, “Wide Awake” by angstgoddess, “Awaken” by Edward’s Eternal, “The Ties That Bind” by yesyov, and “Songbird” by SydneyAlice. To add one more, because I need a little humor to balance all the heartbreak, I’d also take “Bella Swan, Kidnapper” by Kambria Rain. (I know, I know. That’s six. It’s just too hard to choose!)
Which story would you like to recommend for our readers today and tell us why you love it!!
There are SO many great fics out there today. To narrow it down to one fic … So difficult. I think I will go for a fic from a brand new author. I saw this recd on Facebook the other day and read all five of the posted chapters. The writing is really good. The story premise is different from most of what I’ve read recently. And, I really like supporting a newbie. So, I whole-heartedly recommend “Alone” by Prolific Novice.
FicSister Note: Our regular readers will note we recommended this story just last week – everyone who is reading it is loving it – check out our review here!
SydneyAlice wrote some of the first fanfics I ever read. With fics such as Such Great Heights and Songbird, she had me hooked from the start. Part of this is because her characters are always so real. The kind of people you can imagine having as friends. Good people, ones with strengths and weaknesses like the rest of us. People you root for as they try to face the trials and twists that life throws at them.
These traits continue in her original stories (writing as Sydney Logan). In Soldier On, she tells the tale of Stephanie and Brandon, two students in their final year at college, who meet unexpectedly at a party. From the start their attraction is intense, enough for them to share an intense kiss at midnight. A toe-curling, spine tingling embrace that turns their world upside down.
What starts as a chance meeting soon blossoms into something more when the two meet again in a lecture theater. It becomes clear that the attraction they felt wasn’t for one night only. And it soon blossoms into something more.
Falling in love should be easy–and it is–except for one huge problem. Brandon is in the ROTC, destined to join the army for four years after graduation. And Stephanie hates the military.
She has good reasons for this. Her father was killed when she was a baby, collateral damage in Operation Desert Storm. And she’s never forgiven the army for taking him away from her, blaming them for growing up with a widowed mother.
With such a huge gulf between them, love seems impossible. And yet slowly and surely we see the two of them grow closer, before things come to a head in an explosive way. Throughout the story I found myself rooting for them. In spite of her hatred of all things military, Steph is kind and big-hearted, the perfect match for Brandon, a strong, burly man who has a huge capacity for love.
And that’s what this is. A love story in the truest sense of the word. Beautifully written, with characters you can’t help falling in love with, Soldier On is my kind of book. Sweet, loving and timeless. It’s the sort of story that you finish reading with a smile on your lips and a tear in your eyes. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Like a Mobward? How about if Edward is possessive and tends towards the “dark side”? If you have answered yes, yes and YES to the above, you are going to be in heaven with Relentless.
Bella is your average college girl when she meets Edward on a night out with friends. Having no idea who he is, or what he does for a living, she is intrigued (and very attracted) to this charming, gorgeous man. She soon learns, however, that Edward is no ordinary guy. But what she doesn’t realize is that she is about to be hurled into a world she won’t believe!
We have read all the current chapters of Relentless literally sitting on the edge of our seats – it is packed full of action and even moments where you will think in text speak, like WTF, LOL and a whole lot of OMGs.
Kudos has to go to StillDreaming85 – creating a Mobward who is original and fresh isn’t easy, but she has done it and she has done it with style. We can’t wait to see this story unfold before our eyes!
FicSister Note: Please take note of StillDreaming85’s warnings for this story at the beginning of chapter one – this story contains a dark and possessive Edward. It is also a mafia story – there will be violence. Strap in, people!
Summary: Bella meets Edward and sparks fly. He starts sending her gifts, and she starts falling for him, but he’s not the charming businessman she thinks he is. He’s in the Mafia. Will she find out in time, and how will she react? Crime/Romance Rated M Bella/Edward WIP

As a fandom, we have shown over and over that, when there is someone or something that we care about, we will rise up and stand behind them, put our collective strength behind them. When we are needed, we stand together behind our own.The call for that collective strength is being made again.
On July 20th, Christy Pellicano -known to many as DeansHoneyBear- lost her husband, Daniel, after a brief but extremely intense battle with Cancer. During the course of Daniel’s illness, Christy’s heart was breaking, but her strength was unchallenged. In addition to being chief medical consultant, transportation provider and morale officer throughout, Christy never let her first and foremost role as Danny’s mom falter, making sure that Danny got to spend all the time possible with his dad.
The willing sacrifices that Christy made did not come free, however. Medical bills have piled up. Every day expenses continue to be due. And Danny continues to need the things growing boys need, especially with school starting up again.
How Can I Help?
We are asking for you to donate. We are taking up the collection plate, as it were. Funds are being collected via Paypal to be given in total to Christy and Danny to be used for whatever they need. Medical bills, mortgage, school supplies- whatever need is most pressing.
But, it is a Fandom Gives Back. And we want to thank you for supporting Christy and Danny. So, in exchange for your generosity, you get a gift; a compilation of specially donated pieces by some of the great authors we get to claim for our own. Bornonhalloween, Sarge’s Girls, SexiLexiCullen, Tufano, Dishie and more; the list continues to grow.
A donation of $10 or more will get you in on the action.
How Long Do I Have?
The collection drive closes at 9pm EST on Tuesday, September 30th. Donations of $10 or more made by the cutoff will be confirmed through Paypal and then all contributors will receive the compilation PDF via email on Friday, October 3rd.

Thanks to the Fandom for Christy for allowing the FicSisters to play a tiny part by posting this extract from their site.
Lost in soft and heat, I take her lip between mine so gently, so carefully. Swiping my tongue across her flesh, I reel. She tastes of blood and everything that I imagine sex might be.
And I want to know.
