Whether your lucky number is 1 or 100, almost everyone will say they have one, and today it’s your lucky day as we bring you a number of wonderful stories to read. This includes Edward’s Eternal’s new fic, where it would seem Bella’s lucky is #13. 😉
Scrolling through my newsfeed one morning I saw a video with the Headline “Awkward turns to Beautiful in 30 seconds”. Intrigued, I clicked the link and watched as people who had never met before, were asked to kiss each other. It made me, and millions of other people, smile as we watched it. All day I kept thinking about it and an idea formed in my head. What if that was Edward and Bella meeting for the first time? What if their connection was so intense in those first, brief seconds it changed their life for ever —and for the better?
To the amusement of my beta, Midnight Cougar, I mused and mused all day and then told her I was going to do a one shot about it since I simply could not get the idea out of my head. Just a one shot I insisted. As usual, she laughed and told me to go for it.
Volunteer #13 was born. Her response to the first chapter was instant – write more.
One chapter became two, which became three and then there were ten. They all flowed as if the words had been waiting to come out and in less than ten days they were complete.
Two people both doing something out of the ordinary. Her to help a friend and him to get his sister off his back. Neither looking for what they find.
“You want to me what?” I stared, aghast, at my friend Rose’s calm face.
“I need you to come to the studio tomorrow and kiss a stranger.”
“A kiss, like on the cheek? A quick hello-type kiss?”
Rose huffed at me. “No, Bella. Lips pressing.” She grinned wickedly. “Tongues meeting, if you want. That type of kiss.”
“With a stranger.”
“That’s the idea. One of my volunteers called me today and she is sick. I need you. Please?”
And then they meet, although unknown by Bella, it is not the first time.
“Can I kiss you, Bella?”
“If you want to,” I breathed.
God, I hoped he wanted to.
His hand pulled me closer, the shudders increasing as I felt the heat, his heat, radiating from his body. “Yes. Yes, I want to.”
He pressed closer, his eyes never leaving mine. He bent lower, and without thinking I slid my hand up to his shoulder, gripping his t-shirt tightly despite the pain it cause my fingers and rising up on my toes to meet him part way. My eyes shut of their own accord, a small sigh escaping as I felt his lips brush mine. His mouth was tender, the touch soft, light, and as gentle as a summer breeze that teases your skin in the heat of the sun. Promising relief but only to leave you wanting more—so much more.
He pulled back and my eyes flew open, disappointment flooding my senses.
That was it? A small whimper of protest escaped my mouth. I wanted more.
His voice was a quiet hum in my ear. “Bella, can I try one thing?”
I was nodding before I even knew what I was doing.
He could try anything.
It’s a simple story of finding what you need when you least expect it and welcoming the change with open arms. No angst.
Volunteer 13: A favour for a friend. A few minutes of her life. Kiss a stranger while it’s being filmed. “Easy,” Rose insisted. “Kiss him and walk away.” Will it be that simple for either of them? M E/B (WIP)

Domie Ocsickgirl Alvarado: Against the Odds by knicnort3 (Complete) ~ This one had been on my TBR list for a LONG time. It’s a quick read, but I thought it was really good. Bella is pretty naive but her heart is in the right place. I loved this Edward.
When her brother Emmett is diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia, Bella attempts to save him by secretly embarking on a radical scheme involving his best friend Edward. As their plan proceeds, Bella and Edward must deal with the repercussions of their actions and a love they were never expecting. A/H M Romance/Drama B/E
EdwardsLady: Outbound by aftrnoondlight (Complete) – Just twelve beautifully written chapters, but such a special story – a frequent re-read when I want to escape to a happy place.
Two beautiful souls humbly traveling life’s lonely path, until fate suddenly shows her hand. Will Edward and Bella surrender willingly… A tender, romantic tale of love and life in the clouds.
Musette Blanchard: The Other Way by the wonderful Honeybeemeadows (Complete) One of the most fantastic stories I had the pleasure to read! A poem of hidden feelings, love, loss, love, hope, love, courage … did I mention love?
Men, like jewels, require a setting. Even if the setting is the last place you’d expect. M B, E, A, J
Musette Blanchard: And mamasutra‘s The Lost? (WIP) I’m a wimp, a real chicken when it comes to angst but what can I say? Mamasutra dazzles me!
SunshineGirl: The Girl in the Creek by MandyLeigh87 (Complete) – I love anything that MandyLeigh writes and I enjoy trying to work out a good mystery or crime, so this is the perfect combination for me, it had me gripped!
They called her the girl in the creek. I just knew her as my older sister. And she was murdered when I was twelve years old. BxE AH Rated M
It’s said that the phrase “objects in (the) mirror are closer than they appear” is actually a safety warning, and maybe that applies here, as TheFicChick says, “In this story, Edward is very much a high school boy and twentysomething almost-man – he isn’t perfect. Bella is very much a high school girl and twentysomething almost-woman – she’s not perfect, either.” But, that’s okay because, for us, that is one of the draws of the story…their imperfections and how they strive to grow, move on, forgive.
There’s no doubt everyone makes mistakes at some time in their life, but, if we’re lucky, we live and learn from them, and that is a strong message here. Another element that’s interwoven throughout the plot as well as into the characters’ development is: forgiveness. There are many life lessons that teach us “Forgiveness is the final form of love.” ~ Karl Paul Reinhold Niebuhr, and as we continue on this reading journey, from the first 24 chapters in BPOV, to now, the last part of the story told in EPOV, we need to keep in mind what the author asks, “Have you ever had to forgive a person for something s/he did a lifetime ago?”
It’s a beautiful thing, knowing that someone loves you when he knows everything there is to know about you. It makes your heart feel safe in his gentle hands.
With each chapter of Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear, from the past to the present, from the present to the past, there’s no question this story has brought on much discussion and passionate debate amongst its readers; all of which prove what a captivating read we are enjoying.
Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear: “It’s the first time I realize that for all of the significance boy-Edward holds in my past, man-Edward is a stranger to me. The thought is at once liberating and heartbreaking, and I don’t know what to do with it: how do you forgive someone who no longer exists? How do you hold a man accountable for a boy’s carelessness?” (WIP)
Patroclus Rising, by giselle-lx, opens in a Chicago hospital one fateful day in 1918, after the broken-hearted Elizabeth Masen, drags her son Edward, severely weakened by influenza, through its welcoming doors. The chain of events that this sets in motion shows us…no…it allows us feel Dr. Carlisle Cullen’s fascinating internal struggle between what he wants, emotionally, and what he believes to be right, morally and ethically. Carlisle in SM’s Twilight, on the surface anyway, appears to possess the best of human nature’s qualities – just look at his compassion and profession – yet somehow, this story serves to make him appear even more like a warm-blooded man by revealing his human-like flaws.
More accurately, flaws and weaknesses…
But his own mind had betrayed him, a few hours ago. “I would like to be recognized.” Because that, if anything, was what he wanted most. Having someone to talk to, someone who would be excited to see him, someone who knew that he liked Baroque music, and that he enjoyed chess but considered checkers a form of torture.
As much as he ached for Edward’s blood, he ached for this other thing, too. It was an asinine hope if ever there were one. Edward had been brought in already delirious. He didn’t even know Carlisle’s name.
Carlisle squeezed Edward’s hand, running one hand through his hair. The pads of his fingers ran over Edward’s scalp, the hair sliding against them as he stroked.
Laying one hand on the hot, sweating brow, Carlisle carefully leaned in to put his lips next to Edward’s ear.
“I’m Carlisle,” he whispered.
The boy didn’t stir.
Saying this is the story of Edward’s newborn years, is like saying The Lord of The Rings is about a small man with hairy feet throwing a ring into a fire, as really, Patroclus Rising is so much more complex than that. It’s a beautifully written, psychological portrayal of a boy on the cusp on manhood, suddenly dealing with immortality and eternity…concepts that require major adjustment.
While this tale is told through five fascinating chapters, we can only hold our breath as the dynamics explode and Edward’s universe – as he perceived it to be – is once again irrevocably changed.
Edward and Carlisle’s relationship is one of ease and anguish; companionship and love; and without doubt, emotionally moving for the reader. It remains canon in many aspects; those strands that stray are seamlessly and subtlety woven back in to place, but we warn, long after you finish reading you may feel the need to pick them over as you ponder this unorthodox but quite possible exploration and explanation of the Cullen family history.
Patroclus Rising: When a strong and beautiful boy is admitted to Cook County Hospital, Carlisle Cullen finds himself in what will prove to be the test of many lifetimes. Edward/Carlisle slash, but canon compliant…if you do some reading between the lines. A FGB novella. M Drama (Complete)
When a story can make you laugh in the first paragraph, you know you are onto a winner! Mystique-jewled’s new story How to Tame a Player is currently two chapters in and we can’t wait for more!
Studious Bella has just started at Masen University, and during her first class she has an encounter with the uber-confident, arrogant (but oh-so gorgeous) Edward Cullen.
We get the feeling that Bella’s journey to tame this player will be an incredibly entertaining one. But first we want to know what’s on his Wikipedia page! Yes, yes, he actually has one. Definitely one to be reading!
How to Tame a Player: Masen University. Home to the nation’s best science program, the western seaboard’s largest electron microscope, and the world’s biggest womanizer. I’m Bella Swan, and this is where I learned How To Tame A Player. (WIP)
We usually put the summary beneath our review, but this amusing monologue, from someone who clearly has insights into a Cullen we haven’t yet met, is begging for your attention first. That is, of course, if you can drag your eyes away from a bare-chested Edward bottle-feeding a Roo!
“As a cinematographer, I’ve given some thoughts to how I might die, but never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d die of dehydration, cut up and bleeding while perched in a tree in the middle of the Australian outback. As you can see, Sam is down below. He’s an insane and perpetually randy, 7-foot tall, alpha-male kangaroo, and he belongs to that equally mental bloke, Cullen.”
We doubt many people dream they will die of dehydration while avoiding a randy kangaroo, or perhaps it’s his owner who is the problem…we haven’t reached that far in the story to know for sure. 😉
What we do know is Bower-of-Bliss writes this British Bella as an awesome woman! She not only has a quirky sense of humour, but she’s successful in her chosen field as a cinematographer, is a loving daughter, and stands up for what is right even at great personal cost.
The globe-hopping story is three dramatic and plot-packed chapters in, and we have just met a six-foot-five hunk of a man – wet and completely naked! *Holy Dooley, could that be Edward?!* This fic is definitely one to watch!
Oh, the coordinates that you’ll see appearing whenever there’s a change of location during this fic relates to Google Maps. If you put them into Google Maps or Google Earth, you’ll see the view. How cool is that!
