It was once said that, “The best love story is when you fall in love with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time.” ~ author unknown. There’s no doubt life is full of unexpected pleasures, and today it’s our pleasure to bring you some of those, beginning with Opal aline’s Unexpected new love story…
Unexpected is the story of a single mother (Bella), who is just trying to make it the best way she can. There’s nothing extraordinary about her; I very much want her to be the everyday woman doing the best she can with what life hands her and her children.
My inspiration for this story came as I was standing in the grocery check out line. You can’t help but see the covers of the tabloids and it got me thinking: what would I do if that was me? How would I react with a camera right in my face or someone chasing me down the street? I decided to explore this via fan fiction – the effects and reactions of a family suddenly thrust into the limelight.
Bella’s character really comes into herself through this story. She’d let life kind of sweep her along before, so when she puts her foot down and decides to do things her way, a lot is opened up to her. She has many first time experiences, even though she is in her 30’s, and meeting Edward becomes a real vehicle for her to experience a whole new world.
Edward goes through changes as well. He’s been swept along too, by his fame. He doesn’t really have a career plan and lets others make a lot of his decisions when it comes to the parts he takes or interviews he does. Bella brings a freshness and some focus to his world.
I think one of the things that makes this story special is Bella’s the average woman. She isn’t a size 0; she has a few extra pounds and is in her early thirties. Her skin isn’t porcelain and her tits aren’t perfect…she’s had a life. She has born children and worked hard, and those things show on her. I want her to be a real person and I hope that shows and people enjoy her.
Here is a little snippet from the first chapter:
‘What is it about sitting alone on Christmas Eve that makes you think about your life?
Maybe it’s the eerie silence that holiday nights seem to possess.
Maybe it’s the record cold clearing my brain. Whatever it is, I know I don’t want this to be my life anymore.
I don’t want this stagnant feeling of going nowhere, of only existing and not really living. I want something better for my kids. I want something better for me. I feel it as certain as the floor beneath my feet: things need to change.’
Unexpected: Unhappy with where life has taken her, Bella seeks a second chance in Hollywood. A struggling single mother, will life get the better of her or take her to unexpected places. Family/Hurt/Comfort M Bella, Edward, Leah Seth (WIP)
According to her author’s note, Pinky Swear came to life from a conversation Kharizzmatik had with a friend about how unsatisfying the end of the Julia Roberts movie My Best Friend’s Wedding was…which I completely agree with. So, luckily for us, the author of the fic classic Emancipation Proclamation (now in paperback as Sempre by J.M. Darhower) decided to try her hand at a better ending, using our favorite couple Edward and Bella in the main roles.
Don’t be fooled though, thinking this is a carbon copy of that film with a better conclusion. This story is so much MORE.
As the tale begins, we come to understand that Edward and Bella were childhood friends and neighbors, moving in different social circles while maintaining a close relationship to one another. As time progressed, they grew apart, until one day Bella gets a very unexpected call. Edward is getting married, and he’s returned to their hometown, where their parents still remain next-door neighbors, to do so. Bella knows she’s got one last chance to show Edward that she is the girl of his dreams.
They say you can’t go home again, but Bella does exactly that, planning on bringing this engagement to the ‘perfect’ Tanya down. She plots, she maneuvers, she does everything she can to get Edward to see the huge mistake he’s making, even though everyone else seems to be okay with the rapidly approaching nuptials.
Tanya grabbed Edward’s arm, linking hers through it as she leaned against him, and I just stared at them. They looked happy, a striking picture-perfect couple who complimented each other in every way. Even a passer-by would probably stop and gawk, envious of the sight. They belonged on the cover of a magazine.
A magazine I wanted to rip the pages out of and start a fire with.
The problem was, that wasn’t Edward. I knew Edward. Time may have passed, but he was still the same person deep down inside. Edward loathed perfection. He might be swept up in things, blind to reality, but I could see the truth. If he married Tanya, he’d live to regret it.
The question was, could I make him see that before it was too late?
I plastered a smile on my face as Tanya continued to talk, refusing to react even as he leaned down to kiss her. She said she was going back inside and hugged me again before bouncing toward the Cullen’s house.
Her shiny lip gloss had smudged and left a trail of stickiness on Edward’s bottom lip. I watched as his tongue darted out, brushing across it slowly. He was tasting it… tasting her.
I wanted to puke again.
“I should probably go,” Edward said, reaching over and squeezing my arm gently. It was a friendly gesture, completely platonic. It made my chest ache.
What makes this story so special though, are the insightful flashbacks in time that allow us to view the progression of their relationship, from semi-secret friends to more. The way Kharizzmatik interlaces these past events with what’s going on in the present, we learn exactly what these two meant to each other and how it all went so wrong.
The moments where Edward and Bella let their guard down and just let themselves be who they once were together make for some of the most heartfelt scenes. The tension and chemistry between these two is off the charts; you can feel the strong, undeniable pull they have to each other amp up with each chapter until you are practically salivating for them to finally be honest and admit the possibility that things may not have ended between them. The writing is witty and thoughtful, which makes for some fantastic comedic moments that mix well with the conflict of the story. Do you fight for what you want, or do you let the people you love move on?

The Registry is off to an interesting start; at two chapters we’ve only 1,208 words, but the picture the authors paint is an intriguing one. Remember the most important rule in canon? Keep the secret at all costs. Yeah, well, that went up in a puff of smoke as quick as you could say “suck me dry”. Vampires have come out of the proverbial closet – they now rule the world.
So far, the canon aspect of a weary Edward being the only one solo among mated couples still rings true. But, the situation may be about to change as Carlisle inadvertently discovers a revolutionary way for vampires to use humans.
This story is co-written by boo1414 and KarenCullen2007, and boo1414 shares the inspiration behind this unique premise of The Registry :
A little more than a year ago, I was in the middle of a registry search of my own. I have an autoimmune disorder that sometimes can be forced into remission by a bone marrow transplant. So, while I waited to hear if I had a match from the bone marrow registry, an idea was born…
We’ve written a lonely Edward, who finally has the chance to find his other half, even if that way is less than ethical.
See what we mean about an original and interesting premise? Looks like we could be in for a fascinating read; something which we love.
The Registry: Vampires have come out of hiding to rule the world. A breakthrough discovery creates “The Registry,” and human participation is mandatory. Alone too long, Edward adds his name. Will he find his mate in a human, and will his father forgive him for doing it? M Romance/Supernatural B/E (WIP)
If you have read any of Rochelle Allison’s stories before, you will know what a delicious temptation her writing is. The bitter, the sweet is another perfect story to tempt the reading taste buds, if you’ll pardon the metaphor.
Bella is a single mom and a cook; loved and supported by great friends and family because she truly deserves to be. She loves her little girl with the maternal fierceness Rochelle knows from her own heart. She lives her life in the same way you or I would, striving to make the most out of the ingredients she has been given. Edward enters the kitchen, so to speak, in chapter 3 – not as a white knight, because this Bella really has no need for one; just as one very hot and handsome human being with a story to tell:
“Em’s friend is back in town. He’s staying with us for a couple of weeks…Makenna, stop it! I told you to share!” I hold the phone away from my ear, shivering in the cold.
“Rose – “
“Hold on…Now! Give it back to him! Thank you! Sorry, Bella. Just go on in. I told Edward you might get there before I did. Sorry, I meant to call you…”
She’s still rambling when the door opens.
I don’t know what I’m expecting, but it’s not this. He’s…he’s… definitely not unfortunate looking. He’s tall and kind of lean but…and there are tattoos…everywhere… I mean, he has a sweater on and I can still see them creeping up his neck. I don’t know how I feel about that.
“I, uh, Rose, I’ll see you soon.” I hang up, clutching my phone to my chest. “Hi?”
“Hi…Bella?” He pushes his sleeve up and extends a hand. Yup; more tattoos. “Edward.”
Don’t fool yourself, Bella. He’s ridiculous.
I write WitFits, and have for the past few years on and off, because they’re excellent writing exercises. They are a good way to keep the creative juices flowing, to not get ‘rusty’ so to speak. Also, sometimes I just have plot bunnies that need to be written and fleshed out. “the bitter, the sweet” was no exception – the idea came to me one night, and I just had to work it out.
This is a story that feels utterly real. There is no sugar coating the hard stuff in life, but despite that, the sweetness of family and love balances perfectly with the taste of slightly bitter reality.
the bitter, the sweet: Bella’s 24. She’s got a career she loves, close family & friends, and a little girl she loves more than anything. She doesn’t need anything more, but sometimes she sure wants it, and when Edward shows up he’ll either upset the balance or make everything sweeter. A WitFit. (WIP)
I know that because I’ve been back in America for years now, and I still don’t date American girls. My dad would say I’ve come to my senses, sticking to my own British patrician kind, but that’s crap. Mum, the psychologist, would more wisely say it’s my unresolved issues around Nicki. My teenage years are long behind me, yet my guilt over her remains. So I’ve avoided all things Nicki, though the irony is she’s the one avoiding me.
Maybe if we see each other, we can both move on. Could she ever forgive me? Can you forgive yourself when you hurt someone you love?
So let me tell you my story. Then you can be the judge.
The thing that grips you at first in I Hate You with an Insurmountable Passion is the incredibly steamy relationship that Bella and Edward share – all whilst seemingly hating each other. For a couple that openly profess their disdain for each other, they certainly seem to enjoy certain aspects of each other (if you know what we mean!).
Steamy lemons wrapped around a great plot, Crittab‘s delicious little story is one you will find hard to put down. Whether reading it for the first time, or re-reading – it is great ride!
I Hate You with an Insurmountable Passion: Bella Swan would like to think she truly hates Edward Cullen. Of course, that’s what makes sex with him so damn fun. E/B, All Human, AU. Rated a hard M for Lemons.
Desire takes many different forms. It can guide you down a dark and dreary road. Danger can bring out both the best and worst in people. Wants and needs can consume us without any thought. Our wants and needs can lead you to sin…and sometimes those sins can be deadly.
