Once again, welcome to another packed house.
First up today is the very talented Drotuno, introducing her new fic, Masen Manor…
I’m not sure what started this plot bunny, but it wouldn’t quit bugging me. I was trying to explain the feel of it to a friend, and the only thing I could come up with was Phantom of the Opera meets The Secret Garden with a touch of supernatural in it. I’m sure with the boarding school side of things, there’s a little Harry Potter thrown in for good measure.
I wanted a Vampward, but I wanted something different, darker. My writing style is very much the same as everything else I’ve written. It’s only two points of view – Edward and Bella.
So…what’s different? Well, if you ask my pre-readers, they’ll tell you this is darker, more mysterious, and a slow burn. The supernatural is quite prevalent in this one – vamps, wolves, ghosts, fortune telling gypsies. Not everyone is canon; I’ve changed a few things around. And just because it’s vamp, doesn’t necessarily mean the same old Cullen family. My rules of HEA are still standing. And for the first time in a very long time, I really love Jacob…and Leah, for that matter. LOL 😉
Teaser from Chapter 2…
“Phil and Renee Dwyer, this is Esme Cullen from Masen Academy.” Chelsea walked to me, placing a hand on my shoulder. “And this is Isabella Swan, but she’d rather you call her Bella.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet all of you,” Mrs. Cullen said, smiling and shaking my parents’ hands, and then she walked to me. “Bella,” she greeted, and I smiled back.
I couldn’t help it. There was something calming and sweet about her. Her eyes did match her hair, and they were warm. I shook her hand, noting that the rainy day outside had made her hands cold, but followed her to the loveseat and sat next to her as she pulled out a few file folders and set them down on the coffee table.
“Technically, Bella,” she started, speaking directly to me, “you’re already accepted into Masen, but it’s just a matter of going over some of the details with you and your parents. The application and examples of your work were excellent, your test scores at Chamberlain are outstanding, and if I’m understanding correctly, you play piano at an advanced level, yes?”
I nodded, giving her a small smile.
“Good, good,” she praised, patting my arm. “Now, let’s get started, shall we?”
She spent about thirty minutes going over the basics of the school, some of the rules, and what I was allowed to take with me. She answered a few questions from my mother, but then turned to face me.
“I’d like to speak with Bella alone, if that’s all right with all of you.”
“Bella doesn’t really…speak,” my mother countered.
My stepfather opened his mouth like he wanted to say something, but he snapped it closed when Mrs. Cullen eyed him for a second.
“That’s perfectly fine,” Mrs. Cullen replied in light tone and a soft smile. “I’m sure we’ll manage, won’t we, Bella?”
I nodded at her and then at my mother, waiting until she and Phil left the room to face Mrs. Cullen again.
Masen Manor: Masen Manor, home to a prestigious boarding school, Masen Academy. An immortal hiding from the world has his faith tested by a hundred-year-old fortune and a broken, silent girl. AU…E/B…Slightly OOC…Rated M
I’m so excited to be here for several reasons. First, because I get the chance to let all you lovely readers take a peek at a new writing team and their maiden voyage story. Second, because one of the writers is another military wife that I connected with through my latest story. She asked me to beta her new project, and I happily accepted. Finally, this story is based on several true events that happened to TwiWifeLife, making this tale even deeper and more meaningful.
Affettuoso grabs you from the beginning as we meet Bella, a nineteen year old drifter in New York City, who’s drawn to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts to listen to the classical music that can be heard at rehearsals and performances on many days. Luck is on her side this particular afternoon as a familiar piece catches her attention; she has to see who’s playing so perfectly. She’s not heard such an incredibly beautiful performance since her childhood, when her mother played it for her. It haunts Bella as she wrestles with the lingering grief that’s never dissipated over the loss of her mother so many years ago.
I’m snapped out of my reverie when the music abruptly stops. Other than my mother, I have not heard that piece played so flawlessly. I’m stunned. I want to go investigate. To go see who could play that piece so exquisitely. But I also want to run and hide. I want to go somewhere that I can allow myself to lose it and cry without prying eyes.
Before I can make that decision, I’m brought to a standstill once again as I find myself completely entranced. Eyes that resemble green lasers stare directly at me. They’re piercing through to my soul. I feel so exposed and defenseless yet, I can’t look away. These eyes appear to have seen a lifetime.
And enter Edward.
A twenty-six year old egotistical, sexually-charged heartthrob with an affinity for Magnum Grey Goose vodka, who just so happens to be a concert pianist with the Philharmonic.
I walk quickly over to the door. I may be an ass, but I’m not heartless… most days. If she’s in trouble, I can’t just walk away.
She’s gone. No surprise there, they all come and go which is perfectly fine by me. Actually, I prefer it that way.
I walk back to the piano, grabbing my sheet music before closing the lid to the Grand Steinway and walking out. All I can think of right now is getting a drink. This day was a total waste. The arrangements they have me playing are too easy. It feels as though I’ve been playing them since I was in diapers.
Finding what I’m looking for isn’t possible at a dive bar on a Monday, so I decide to say screw it and hit up Flute. It’s been a while since I’ve been there, so I’m sure I won’t run into any of my past conquests. Tonight is Cabaret Night, so maybe I can even get a little down and dirty in the luxury, high-class bathrooms.
Umm, yeah. Clearly Edward has no problem finding an easy lay for the night, along with several drinks to help wash away the day’s annoyances…and ghosts.
As their beta, I’m privileged to know that there’s a hell of a bumpy road ahead for these two. Bella and Edward—linked by a history together that neither of them realize— are in for quite the ride. Dark and difficult times are ahead for both characters, but they will help to save each other, as well.
Affettuoso is co-written by new author, TwiWifeLife and veteran author, Silly Sad Sarah Twilighted. They intend to post chapters every two weeks, mostly in alternating points of view. We hope that you’ll come along to experience the melody, harmony, dissonance and intricate movements that make up Affettuoso.
Affettuoso: “My name’s Bella Swan & I’m a 19 year old wanderer. Most people would refer to me as homeless, but I’m a forever optimist.” After suffering a great loss, Bella is forced into a life of destitution. Having experienced his own misfortunes, Edward is barely keeping his head above water. When their worlds collide, will they be able to save each other? Or will it be too late?
Theladyingrey42‘s String Theory is a ficsisters favorite.
Her adorkable Edward is a gorgeous (but nerdy) grad student who pines for his fellow classmate, the studious and aloof Bella Swan. Even though they are both working toward a Masters in Physics and have classes together, they have very little interaction… okay, they have no interactions. Despite his carefully timed coffee breaks and occasional strolls by her cubicle, she never acknowledges his presence. It seems as if they exist in completely different dimensions. While many of their fellow students have written her off as a snob, Edward sees something more and is determined to befriend her.
After almost two years (yes, two years) of stalkerish tendencies, he finally works up the nerve to talk to the brilliant brunette who haunts his every thought. Even though their “chance” encounter doesn’t go exactly as planned, the result is far better than he ever expected. It seems that she has noticed him; she even knows his name. Hmmm
Their friendship quickly gathers momentum and Edward soon discovers why Bella keeps to herself; it seems she has more on her plate than the average grad student. He’s not deterred. After several shared coffee breaks and an outing to see The Muppets movie, Edward finds himself even more determined to be a part of her life.
Believe us, this delicious Edward is nearly too good to be true! *cue sigh*
String Theory: “Eleven dimensions. Infinite parallel realities. And in all of them, I love her.” Muppets, math, and physicists falling in love. Fluff and eventual lemons. ExB
If a sweet, beautiful story is what you’re after this Valentine’s Day, then RockRaven244’s Stingrays & Sexwax, and it’s supportive, sexy Doctorward will hit the spot perfectly. Swoon!
Stingrays & Sexwax: I feel the sand shift behind me and the familiar scent of Sexwax envelopes me; it’s the beach and sunscreen, good music and the cool breeze off of the ocean all wrapped up in one smell. It’s about falling in love with my best friend. (One shot)
On the other hand, if smut is more your thing, if a commanding, sexy, possessive, Mr. Cullen flicks your switch, then prettykittyartist’s hot and steamy To Keep, will definitely hit that spot. 😉 Phew!
To Keep: Bella Swan’s love life has been in a slump for years. Things are finally starting to look up for her when she is set up on a blind date for Valentine’s Day, only to get caught up at work with extra tasks. Thinking her evening is a lost cause, her misfortune suddenly takes a turn for the better. (One shot)
Hot off the press is exactly what this two-part story is! It’s specially written for our reading pleasure on Valentine’s Day and will complete today also. Enjoy!
Break Even: “When a heart breaks, it doesn’t break even.” Bella is bitter and jaded, her heart like a mismatched jigsaw puzzle. Can a cute stranger on a train help her put the pieces back together? A short Valentine’s Day Story.
Congratulations and best wishes to Shay Savage on the release of her book Transcendence. We all know love is timeless, and given that today is 14th February, Shay tells us…
What better way to spend your Valentine’s day than with a epic love story that transcends time and language? You’re going to laugh, you’re going to worry, your heart is going to clench, and you’ll love every page of it. There has never been a couple quite like this, so be prepared for ALL the feels!
It’s said that women and men are from two different planets when it comes to communication, but how can they overcome the obstacles of prehistoric times when one of them simply doesn’t have the ability to comprehend language?
Ehd’s a caveman living on his own in a harsh wilderness. He’s strong and intelligent, but completely alone. When he finds a beautiful young woman in his pit trap, it’s obvious to him that she is meant to be his mate. He doesn’t know where she came from, she’s wearing some pretty odd clothing, and she makes a lot of noises with her mouth that give him a headache. Still, he’s determined to fulfill his purpose in life – provide for her, protect her, and put a baby in her.
Elizabeth doesn’t know where she is or exactly how she got there. She’s confused and distressed by her predicament, and there’s a caveman hauling her back to his cavehome. She’s not at all interested in Ehd’s primitive advances, and she just can’t seem to get him to listen. No matter what she tries, getting her point across to this primitive but beautiful man is a constant – and often hilarious – struggle.
With only each other for company, they must rely on one another to fight the dangers of the wild and prepare for the winter months. As they struggle to coexist, theirs becomes a love story that transcends language and time.
